We’re firm believers that it is always a good idea to be prepared! From regular vehicle maintenance and the proper insurance, to Winter Emergency Kits and year-round must-haves, we want you to have what you need when you need it. So, here is your LOF-Xpress™ approved LIST OF 25 ITEMS THAT YOU SHOULD KEEP IN YOUR CAR. Disclaimer: this list is long. And extensive. And you likely won’t ever need most of what is on this list, but if you do, you’ll be glad you have it! That being said, we encourage you to assess your own needs, evaluate your space (hello, smart cars vs. large SUVs…), and pack accordingly!

Here we go!

  1. We know, we know…you NEVER speed! But, just in case.
  2. Paper map. Yes, they still exist. And so do areas with no cell phone coverage.
  3. Phone charger.
  4. An old cell phone, powered off, with a fully charged battery. An old cellular phone, even without subscription, can still be powered on to call 911.
  5. An umbrella. Fact: There WILL be a downpour when you have to mark a mile away.
  6. The owner’s manual. This is full of good, need-to-know info.
  7. A bottle of water.
  8. Energy bars. These could prove useful when stranded OR on the verge of road rage.
  9. Ice Scraper. After all, this IS Iowa.
  10. Paper towels or baby wipes. The uses are endless.
  11. A blanket. For chilly nighttime drives or to stay warm while stranded and waiting for help.
  12. For sun…duh! And style, if you’re into that.
  13. Matches + flare. So other cars can spot you in an emergency.
  14. A trash bag. For car sickness or cleanup.
  15. Hand sanitizer. Because have you ever been to a gas station bathroom that actually has hand soap?
  16. Spare tire, with jack and wrench.
  17. Because changing a tire in the dark is next to impossible.
  18. Jumper cables. Because dead batteries happen to the best of us.
  19. First aid kit. Because if you don’t have one, you’ll wish you did.
  20. A change of clothes. From a simple spill to forgetting your luggage or having to change a tire in the rain, some extra attire can prove useful.
  21. A pen. As simple as it sounds, think about how often you need one.
  22. Duct tape. Versatile and light weight, duct tape can be used for just about any quick fix.
  23. A roll of quarters. For the unexpected toll or parking meters.
  24. Tire pressure gauge. For more information on how to use this, check out {this} post.
  25. A shovel. In winter, this can be invaluable if you’re ever up against a giant snow drift. For ideas one what to do if you’re ever stuck in snow, read {here}.
